People are being asked for ideas to better connect rural food production and urban consumption in an innovative global program. The aim of the OpenIDEO program is to create more sustainable communities. To create that closer connection OpenIDEO has partnered with the Queensland government and the 2011 Ideas Festival which runs from 19-22 May In launching the challenge, Premier Anna Bligh said local, regional and global ideas were being sought. ''The challenge is to help us find the solution to this problem - we want practical ideas that consider issues such as energy use, transportation, biodiversity, food security, nutrition, obesity,'' she said. "We also need to consider the health of rural economies and the value of sharing between cultures as well as the old and the young.'' People can offer or seek inspiration for the challenge until April 3, after which the concept phase opens and people can submit their ideas. An evaluation phase of short-listed concepts will begin on April 26 with the winners announced during the Ideas Festival.
